"In 1986 I started my dive business running boat charters out of Bala, Ontario, from a small dive shop where we also offered commercial diving services. I ran this operation while attending the University of Guelph studying coastal geomorphology. With an avid interest in deep shipwrecks, mixed gas and cave diving I found a way to combine the unique approaches to extended range diving. After graduating from University I applied these skills to not only commercial applications but public safety diving, research diving and other aspects of ocean science.
My company, [doing business at the time as Serious Divers Only (S.D.O.)] expanded taking me across Canada and around the world teaching all levels of diving, operating charter vessels and engaging in a variety of underwater research projects. Eventually settling on the west coast of Canada my business expanded further as Technical Diving became a mainstream endeavour. I found myself part of the pioneering efforts to introduce that realm of diving by not only franchising IANTD (International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers), the first technical dive training program in Canada, but developing manuals and standards for a number of training agencies.
Along the way I developed another passion, this time on top of the water having the benefit of accruing sea time skippering a number of different types of vessels on both sides of the hemisphere. What came naturally was the evolution of an operation inevitably dedicated to ocean exploration, specifically marine and diving sciences. DeepFathoms is the prodigy of those endeavours."
