Current and past efforts to do so have resulted in slow, incomplete and sometimes lopsided efforts. BC Dive Community wants to be different. March 20th, 2008 Founded by two young university students, this organization went on to become what was really the first technical and scientific training agency in Canada. S.D.O. undertook projects that included wreck preservation and archeological studies, site clean-ups, film projects and underwater documentaries. It's membership base grew to include specialists all across Canada and eventually the birth of it's newsletter 'The Diver's EcoWatch' which later became syndicated in diver magazines and TV shows as 'Technically Speaking' and 'The HangLine'. Deep Fathoms is now posting Dive Vacations offered by Vancouver Island based groups. The Deep Fathoms 'Dive Travel Guide' is intended to give those interested in taking dive vacations, be they local or exotic, an overview of what trips are being offered and by whom, where and when. February 16th, 2007 The HangLine Archives The long time published 'HangLine' is now available at DEEPFATHOMS.com along with archived back issues. The HangLine was first published in 1990 as the official newsletter for S.D.O. (Serious Divers Only). It has evolved over the years and taken various forms including a regular magazine column, an electronic newsletter, an 8 page monthly newsrag snailmailed to hundreds of regular prescribers and now as an interactive newsletter. The Gang at DFP encourages readers to visit the site regular to check out new issues of The HangLine. We welcome feedback, comments, contributions or questions. October 1st, 2006 Alternative Dive Products To Distribute 'Technically Speaking' Book Canadian diving pioneer and CEO for ADP, John Reekie, announced that he will begin distribution of the popular diving encyclopedia this month. ADP is Canada's exclusive Dive Rite distributer and has been around providing shops with unique diving equipment and products for over two decades. Reekie stated that he will NOT require ADP Dealers to purchase minimum orders to receive full sholesale discount on the books. September 18th, 2006 Passing of Canadian Technical Diver DFP was saddened to learn of the recent passing of Steve Schinke, Edmonton born technical diver and marine biologist. Steve enjoyed cave diving and many other forms of technical exploration. After working with the dolphin program at the West Edmonton Mall, Steve relocated to Bermuda and the dolphin program down there. Steve passed away earlier this month in New Zealand of health complications. Steve was well known to the gang at Deep Fathoms and will be greatly missed. September 1st, 2006 Technically Speaking Instructor Program DFP has finally released Beta Verision 6.2 of the Technically Speaking Training program. This package includes a CD with a complete series of Computer Slide Presentations based on the Diving of Trichotomy philosophy. This is a must tool for any Dive Instructor teaching technical, commerical, public safety diving or even recreational programs.
