Technically Speaking:
A Comprehensive Guide to Effective Underwater Exploration
289 pages, soft cover colour bound, First Edition - Copyright © 2005 ISBN 0-9738920-0-5

Written by Bill Nadeau - Bio

This is one of the most comprehensive introductions to extended range diving. It begins with a review of basic diving information including physics, physiology and dive planning. It introduces the 'Trichotomy of Diving' - a dynamic new approach to diver development incorporating up-to-date technology with fundamental principals that have proven to be successful over time. Best of all; it applies these concepts to every facet of diving from shallow open water to deep trimix.

Technically Speaking© is a prerequisite for any diver or dive instructor looking to master the art of extended range exploration and achieve ultimate competency. With hundreds of helpful illustrations on technique, configuration and blue prints on risk management and survival, it is an encyclopedia of diving information that every diver should have.

Whether you are an entry level diver or a trimix instructor with a passion for everything from caves to rebreathers to wrecks, this guide is for you.

Abstract

As creatures of habit we are in a constant drive to develop new technologies that help us explore. And as hopeless romantics we stake our accomplishments in a competitive race to be the first and the best. We search to unveil the mysteriousness that not only exists in our physical world, but in our personal one as well. Over time the commercialization of the industry has resulted in the advancement of diving technology at an exponential rate, but are we really ready to handle it? How far are we willing to go to explore around that next corner? What sacrifices are we prepared to make?

This advanced technology has enabled us to take exploration to the extreme and given us great powers to penetrate parts of our hydrosphere that have never been explored before. Within these abilities exists a need for competency and awareness. By competency we mean a foundation of skills and know-how to safely and effectively use the technology available to us. By awareness we mean a clear understanding of all the risks involved in our actions and an ability to determine whether they justify the benefits.

Technically Speaking© challenges many of today's contemporary diver training programs that 'qualify' divers to use this technology by offering an alternative approach that incorporates a radically holistic philosophy. Throughout the book is a common thread of 'diver beware' and a focus on self-reliance that supports continued interest and promotion of competency in the pursuit of adventure through extended range diving.
